Shortly after 2 a.m. Friday, Grain Valley detectives monitored a ping on a cell phone that Lovelace had recently obtained.
The ping revealed Lovelace was in a beach community of San Diego. Authorities in the area were notified.
Police said about 30 minutes later they found Lovelace in the victim's stolen minivan.
