A woman paralysed for the past 15 years has learned to use a Mind-Controlled Robotic Arm to serve herself coffee(Video)
The peripheral nervous system (motor/sensory neurons not located in the spinal cord or brain) is unique because it can actually regenerate after a severed link. Schwann cells form a tube that allows peripheral neurons to grow through and find their severed half. The central nervous system (spinal cord/brain) is different because instead of Schwann cells, they use astrocytes that form a scar instead of a tube- this prevents neurons from growing back and re-connecting with its severed partner.
