Under the proposed law, Iraq's immense oil reserves would not simply be opened to foreign oil exploration, as many had expected. Amazingly, executives from those companies would actually be given seats on a new Federal Oil and Gas Council that would control all of Iraq's reserves.

In other words, Chevron, ExxonMobil, British Petroleum and the other Western oil giants could end up on the board of directors of the Iraqi Federal Oil and Gas Council, while Iraq's own national oil company would become just another competitor.

A War Conspiracy Documented

Last week the National Security Archive in Washington posted the U. S. war plan—the set of briefing slides used by Central Command (CENTCOM) chief General Tommy Franks to brief President Bush on “Polo Step,” CENTCOM’s Iraq invasion scheme.
The PowerPoint slides were prepared for a series of presidential meetings held from December 2001 to August 2002. The slides summarized CENTCOM’s buildup and maneuver concepts for Bush’s deliberations.

The great methane sinks of the Arctic starting to vent

Warming seas lead to the possible release of methane hydrates trapped in sub-oceanic sediments: methane fireballs tear across the sky, causing further warming. The oceans lose their oxygen and turn stagnant, releasing poisonous hydrogen sulphide gas and destroying the ozone layer. Deserts extend almost to the Arctic. "Hypercanes" (hurricanes of unimaginable ferocity) circumnavigate the globe, causing flash floods which strip the land of soil.
And a new discovery raises fresh questions about the speed at which sea levels might rise in a warmer world due to the rate at which parts of the ice sheets slide from the land into the ocean,
Humanity reduced to a few survivors eking out a living in polar refuges.

The Christian Right and the Rise of American Fascism

Three decades ago, in the throes of the energy crisis, Washington's hawks conceived of a strategy for US control of the Persian Gulf's oil. Now, with the same strategists firmly in control of the White House, the Bush administration is playing out their script for global dominance.

Thirty years after it was founded by President Jimmy Carter, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory at the edge of the Rockies here still does not have a cafeteria.
The hopes for this neglected lab brightened a bit just over a year ago when President George W. Bush made the first presidential call on the lab since Carter.

But one year after the presidential visit, the money flowing into the primary national laboratory for developing renewable fuels is actually less than it was when the Bush Administration took office.
An unusual plea from CBS News Foreign Correspondent Lara Logan highlights the fact that the network television's coverage of the Iraq war still leaves something to be desired.

If Bush and his handlers prevail in the class struggle, all social programs of value to the middle class and the poor, including Social Security, will be privatized and run for profit.
The National Parks, National Forests, and all public lands will be privatized, and divvied up to private vendors such as the Disney Corporation.
The public school system, like the public airwaves, will become for profit entities to serve corporate interests.
Educating our children will be of secondary importance to the profitability of the corporations managing the schools. Every public service will be transferred to the private sector in order provide more wealth to corporate America at public expense

According to journalist Chris Hedges, the religious right's agenda is about far more than elections. What they want is total political control, and to replace US democracy with a 'totalitarian system' — a system that Hedges compares to 20th-century fascist states in Italy and Germany. As a reporter who covered right-wing takeovers in Central America and the former Yugoslavia, he has some idea what he's talking about.

If the Saddam trial would have been held legally, What the world would have known.
The average sentence for clients of public defenders was almost three years longer than the average for clients of private lawyers.

When this document was first uncovered in 1988, George Herbert Walker Bush, then vice president and seeking the presidency, insisted through a spokesman that he was not the man mentioned in the memo:
"I was in Houston, Texas, at the time and involved in the independent oil drilling business. And I was running for the Senate in late '63.
I don't have any idea of what he's talking about."
The spokesman added, "Must be another George Bush."
